“Knowing is not enough; we must apply.

Being willing is not enough; we must do”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Knowing

Hi EveryOne,

Welcome to our next Power. This one may seem a little strange but when understood and accepted, is powerful beyond anything I know. It’s one of those powers that contributes to a strong foundation of all powers. Without this Power, we can easily fall into disempowering habits – pretending that we don’t know (denial), or think that we know but only in theory (arrogance), or completely miss the fact that we actually don’t even know what we don’t know (ignorance).

Our 45th Power – Power of Knowledge…

Knowledge is power but only when used,

it’s not to be arrogant or to be abused.

But to apply what I learn on any given day,

or it’s value is lost, hidden or stored away.

Deep in my conscious out of plain sight,

Deny what I know yet rising to fight.

The more I apply what I truly know,

the less I will need to ‘put on a show’.

** The Power of Knowledge is the ability to apply what I know. It means to continually practice what I learn in order to understand in a practical way, not just in theory – words are cheap – but in my every action.

** I am Wisdom. Applying what I know, I continually update old information for new. I’m continually learning … and growing … and teaching … and learning … and growing … and teaching … and learning …

** Supporting Virtues:  Discernment, Practical, Mindful, Tolerant, Flexible, Courage,  Patience, Creative

Tips:

1. Only when I am able to explain to others clearly, through personal experience, do I truly understand something.

2. Knowledge is only powerful when applied, otherwise it’s useless information that’s stored in the back of my mind and I become a ‘know-it-all’.

3. The more I apply what I know the less I feel the need to prove myself because the more I will understand life and my part in it.

Questions to churn:

1. Do I try to prove myself in my relationships or interactions with others? (a need to explain so ‘others understand’  is a need for approval)

2. Do I walk the talk (do as I say) or do I simply talk the talk (speak about what I think I know)?

3. Do I look for different ways to apply what I’ve learnt in order to check my own understanding?

This is a wonderful Power to really check where I am at in my own self progress, it’s not a time to look at what others are doing or not doing. You know, so often when we think we’ve learnt something, we limit ourselves and stop learning. But humility reminds me that as soon as I think I know, life will test me to see how well I really know 🙂  When running workshops, I often hear ‘I already know all that’ – so I ask, “what have you changed in your life to make you believe that you know it? Why are you here?”… When we need to say it then chances are, we haven’t really understood yet. This is not about shaming but to help us all understand that actions speak louder than words and this is an area where ‘checking and changing’ is necessary if we are serious about self transformation, self care and self empowerment 🙂

Enjoy this wonderful Power and remember to be firm yet gentle with yourself – realisation (or identification) is the first step in self progress. We then need to accept, let go and keep moving forward. Amongst some, our powers ‘to withdraw’, ‘to pack up’ and ‘to tolerate’  come in very handy here 🙂

Much love Annemarie x
