Knowledge = Power… but only when put into a practical form!
“Ultimately, the only power to which man should aspire is that which he exercises over himself” Elie Wiesel
As we are coming to the close of another eventful year – with all it’s colourful victories and interesting challenges, it’s an opportune time to reflect on how we are going with the changes we promised ourselves to make at the start of the year… Am I still moving along according to my aim or have I lost sight of my purpose somewhere along the road? Have I compromised my values, given up because it’s ‘too hard’ and rationalised it with ‘I’ll start fresh next year?’
Power over our own attitude (our own behaviour) is essential if we are to become Master Kings of our own instruments – our body and our mind. If I don’t practice becoming my own Master by consistently applying what I’m learning, when test papers in life come I will not have the power to respond in an unlimited way (and tests will come, it’s their job). Instead I will react in a way that’s disempowering – I will repeatedly bring myself undone through limiting patterns and negative habits.
Knowledge = Power, though only when put into action. Knowledge by itself sits worthlessly dormant in our mind until we as individuals apply and merge it into our daily life. If we do not constantly apply what we’ve learned we disempower ourselves, as we look for ‘reasons’ to remain in our comfort zone and find an outside source to blame – I’m too busy; too tired; too shy; too afraid; too poor; I would if only…; I will when…; I can’t because…
When we know but don’t act upon knowing, we tend to judge others from our self righteous ‘glass houses’ (‘they/you should…’). When we say but don’t do, somewhere along our journey of life we will be exposed. We will discredit ourselves as lip service comes very cheap. Self power comes with self responsibility, we must use knowledge or we lose power – “use it or lose it”. So don’t waste time talking about it, don’t wait until the new year arrives to shine. Get ahead of the game and begin now, do something (no matter how small) – take just one tiny baby step in the direction of your preferred future by applying today what you’ve learned yesterday… then keep going 🙂
Question: Which direction do you wish to go in? Do you do it or just talk about it?
Reflection: Why do you think you waste so much time talking about knowledge instead of putting it into positive action?
Action: Each day for the next month use your power of courage by doing as you say (walk the talk). Upon recognition of giving ‘lip service’ stop instantly, check yourself, then gently change direction – don’t beat yourself up but congratulate yourself and give thanks for another chance to change. Continue this into the new year and watch your life blossom in magical ways 🙂
