Letting go is not always an easy thing to do – especially when I am very attached to a person or situation.

Detachment is often seen in a negative context, yet true detachment is about unconditional love – to love without expectation, to love without controlling, to love without fear of losing.  Of course this is not to say that it’s ok to lie down and be a door mat for others, on the contrary, it’s about having such love for myself first that I can love others openly and for free. It means I know myself to such an extent that I know what I do and do not like, so I can remain flexible in life without compromise or contradiction. It means that I respect myself completely and therefore can respect others also … respect will automatically be returned.

Ask yourself – do I remain true to my own value? Do I respect myself while I show respect for others, or do I compromise or even sacrifice my values in order to please or impress others?

Detachment is being happy for other’s successes, whether I am part of it or not. It’s unconditional love – no strings attached …
